Did you know that as a Computer Science major (or a TCNJ student taking a Computer Science course) you can download and install a wide variety of free software from Microsoft on your own personal machine? It's true!
The MSDN software center that TCNJ has a license to includes Microsoft's operating systems (Windows Vista and XP), compilers (Visual Studio Pro and Visual Studio .NET Pro), databases (SQLServer, FoxPro, Access), some of the Office applications (Visio, Project, One Note), source code development tools (Visual SourceSafe), and other server applications (BizTalk, Project Server, SourceSafe Server, etc.)
If you are already familiar with the MSDN software center , you can find the software and key generation system on the
ELMS website. Use your TCNJ email address to log into your account or recover your password via the ELMS website. (All Computer Science majors have been pre-configured with an ELMS account. Minors and other students taking a CS course, need to request an account through
Dr. DePasquale (depasqua+aahelp [at] tcnj.edu) (subject to validation of your status).
Once you have your account on the ELMS system, you can download a wide variey of applications, burn them to CDROM for safekeeping, and install them to your home PC. The ELMS system manages the installation key generation (the key you need to install the software) and provides the downloading framework for you to download the software.
Please be sure to take note of the following usage guidelines.
- You may use the software for non-commercial purposes including instructional use, research and/or design, development and testing of projects for class assignment and tests or personal projects. You may not use the Program software for any for-profit software development.
- When you are no longer a registered student in a department that is a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance, you may no longer receive updates for your personal use computer. However, you may continue to use previously installed software on your computer, provided you continue to follow program guidelines.
- If you violate the terms of the License Agreement and EULA, the MSDNAA Program Administrator will demand confirmation of removal of the program software on your personal use computer.
If you have questions about the system, be sure to talk to
Dr. DePasquale.
Here's the latest listing of the software you can download immediately.
Other software is available upon request. From time to time, as Microsoft makes additional software available, we will add it to the MSDN archive and update the list below. Finally, be certain that you are familiar with the
guidelines for usage of the software.
